On 1 February 2007, the names Sæplast Dalvík and Tempra became Promens Dalvík and Promens Tempra.

At the same time the names of 20 Promens Group factories outside Iceland, which have operated under the names Sæplast, Bonar Plastics and EPI, also change to Promens.

Sæplast will continue to be an important brand name within the Group, and according to senior managers of the Icelandic factories, the change will have little or no affect on customers.

Daði Valdimarsson, Managing Director of Promens Dalvík, commented that this change has long been in the pipeline and while it is the result of many months of policy formulation, customers will be virtually unaware of any difference.

“This name change can be viewed as a logical continuation of Promens’ expansion. The parent company has grown significantly in recent years and today its subsidiaries in Iceland account for just 2% of Promens’ overall operation. This step signifies that the parent and subsidiary companies operate as a single unit, both in Iceland and globally,” says Daði.

Páll Sigvaldason, Managing Director of Promens Tempra in Hafnarfjörður, also emphasises that customers will be virtually unaware of any changes. “Tempra products will remain completely unchanged. Our customers will only notice a difference in letterheads, invoice forms, telephone answering, etc.” he says.

Hilmar Guðmundsson director of marketing and sales at Promens Dalvík, says, “Our products will continue to be sold under the Sæplast trade name, and we will continue to concentrate on fulfilling our customers’ product expectations. The Sæplast name has a 20-year history, and is well known at home and abroad. This will not change with a new company name. The Sæplast brand will continue to feature strongly at exhibitions and in our promotional materials.

Promens hf. is one of the world’s largest plastic manufacturing companies. The company has an annual turnover of over €700m, operates 60 factories as well as numerous sales offices, and employs around 5,400 people.
