A Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Independent Adjudicator has upheld an objection to the certification of the Russia Sea of Okhotsk pollock fishery, and has handed the assessment back to assessor Intertek Moody Marine (IMM) to review.
The At-Sea Processors Association (APA) challenged the conclusion that the fishery meets the MSC’s global standard for sustainability. Independent Adjudicator Michael Lodge has asked IMM to review whether a procedural breach of MSC’s Certification Requirements made a difference to the assessment, and he also found that the decision that the fishery met some of the scoring guideposts was not adequately justified and has asked for further consideration.
IMM has until 3 July to respond, then the Independent Adjudicator will review IMM’s response and make a further determination on whether the issues have been adequately addressed.
