The Seafish Responsible Sourcing Team will travel to Northern Ireland in February to host an industry workshop and the official NI launch of the revamped Responsible Fishing Scheme.
The events are aimed at people from across the seafood supply chain, from fishermen and processors to fish buyers and food service businesses, as well as policy makers and NGOs. They will take place on 8-9February 2016 in the Burrendale Hotel in Newcastle, Co. Down.
The Responsible Fishing Scheme (RFS) was first launched in 2006 by Seafish to help fishing vessels demonstrate their commitment to a responsibly sourced catch. It has now been revised to include the health and safety and welfare of crew on board.
Helen Duggan, Head of Responsible Sourcing at Seafish, said: “We are delighted to be coming to Northern Ireland to tell industry about our work on responsible sourcing of seafood. Presentations on our Seafish Gear Database, featuring fishing gear and selectivity device profiles, the Seafish RASS (Risk Assessment for Sourcing Seafood) Tool and the revamped RFS will bring the Northern Ireland industry right up to date with the exciting work taking place at Seafish aimed at securing a profitable, sustainable and socially responsible future for the seafood industry.
“We encourage those with an interest in the Northern Irish seafood industry to come along, learn more about what we are doing and share their thoughts on delivering the best service we can locally. A highlight of our trip will be the official NI launch of RFS.”
