These positive figures were given at a recent meeting of members from the British Ports Association during the bi-annual BPA Fishing Ports Working Group meeting.

The meeting was held at Milford Haven at the beginning of May and was attended by representatives from 18 UK fishing ports including Brixham, Plymouth, Peterhead, Newlyn, Grimsby and Holyhead.

At the meeting industry issues were discussed and updates were received on current policies and funding streams from representatives of SEAFISH, the Welsh Government and the Marine Management Organisation.

The group also sampled local fish and were given an overview of Milford Fish Docks’ proposed developments by the Port of Milford Haven’s Short Sea Director Kevin Hobbs. The Port of Milford Haven’s Milford Dock Master Plan, which encompasses an investment programme costing in excess of £60 million, is set to regenerate the Dock Basin in Milford Haven and, attract further business related to the fishing sector.
