The latest edition of fishing industry magazine, ‘Quay Issues’, has been published by Seafish.

The free publication highlights the often untold stories from across the UK fishing industry. It covers a range of topics including fishing gear technology, safety at sea and industry recruitment.
Copies will be available from Fisherman’s Mission centres around the UK, fishermen producer’s organisations and by download from the Seafish website where hard copies can also be requested.
The magazine is informed by Seafish’s annual fleet survey, during which a team of researchers travel to every port in the UK, speaking to as many vessel owners as possible. During the survey Seafish researchers get an overview the challenges and opportunities individual fishermen face on a day-to-day basis. Quay Issues shares inspiring stories about the innovative and creative solutions fishermen across the country have developed to overcome the challenges they encounter in their working lives.
One story comes from 16 year old Newquay fisherman, Ben Lowe, who launched his own fishing business in July this year. In the magazine Ben discusses the experience of striking out on his own and his ambitions for the future, highlighting the rich options available for young people in the seafood industry.
Another fisherman featured in the magazine is Jimmy Buchan from Peterhead. Jimmy discusses how he is meeting the challenges presented by the new landing obligations for 2016 by working with local net manufacturer, Jackson Trawls, to develop a highly selective prawn trawl to reduce bycatch.
