Plans for a new-look fishing exhibition for 2012 that will broaden the scope of the event for visitors and exhibitors have been revealed by Fish Expo organiser, QD Events.

The key aim of the Fishing UK 2012 Expo will be to make it more inclusive by covering every sector of the fish industry from ‘sea to plate’ and to ensure that it is a truly national and international event.

David Moir, Show Manager, outlined the new plans for Fishing UK 2012 at a well-attended fishing industry reception held at the SECC, Glasgow, on 28 March.

David, who is a former skipper, said: “We want to bring every element of the seafood industry into the show format so as to broaden its scope and appeal. As well as fish catching, this will include areas such as processing, logistics and business. All these different sectors are inextricably linked and it makes sense to bring them together.”

Other new areas of focus will include raising the international profile of Fishing UK 2012 so as to turn it into a widely recognised meeting place for the European fishing industry that will showcase the latest innovation and developments within the industry. A new advisory council of industry representatives will also be created to help shape the show format and content over the coming months.

“The point we want to emphasise is that the fishing industry has ownership of the expo and influence over its content. We believe the changes we are making will ensure that the event attracts continued and growing support from within the fishing industry,” said Moir.

Fran McIntyre, managing director of QD Events, said the good level of attendance at the fishing industry reception underlined the strong support for the Glasgow fishing exhibition.

“We have been tremendously heartened by the industry support for the Glasgow fishing exhibition,” she said. “Next year’s Fishing UK 2012 will be the 25th anniversary of the expo and it promises to be a fantastic all-encompassing showcase for the UK and European fishing industry.”

Jim McConville of exhibitor Anderson Marine said: “Fishing UK 2012 will be a new and revitalised event that will be better than ever. The exhibition has our strong support.”

Fishing UK 2012 will take place 22-24 March 2012 at the SECC, Glasgow. More details www.fishingexpo.co.uk
