The Nor-Fishing Foundation Innovation Award 2012 has been given to an advanced cargo handling system which seeks to make all phases of fish handling more efficient - from catch, through freezing, sorting, storage and unloading.
The system was developed by a group consisting of Optimar Giske, the vessel owner company H.P. Holmeseth AS and SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture.
The system gives significant savings for the crew in all the mentioned phases of handling the fish onboard and is already installed onboard the autoline vessel Geir II.
The purpose of the system is to make loading and off-loading more efficient and to reduce heavy manual work onboard and in the hold of the vessel.
Among the finalists were Furuno Norge AS, who presented the world’s first circular radiating trawl sonar with picture updating every 0.8 seconds.
The third finalist was the French company IXBlue Industries S.A.S., with its Fishery Bridge Integrated System. The system collects all relevant information regarding safe navigation, seabed contours and any objects on the bottom, fish existence, movement and position of the trawl, presented on screen including catch reporting, progress of the trawling, and trawl navigation with a view to energy economisation.
