Since 2003, the Board of Directors of the Foundation has contributed NOK 1.3 million to research and development of equipment and services for the aquaculture and fisheries industry, nationally and internationally.

In the past, there has been broad international participation in the contest. Norwegian suppliers have had a strong position in innovation within aquaculture and fisheries, and have won the award several times. In 2004 and 2008, the award went to Icelandic companies for the development of new fishing vessels and for improvements in fish processing. The Nor-Fishing Foundation says it would now like to see more companies outside of Norway participating and winning the award.

The Foundation is now inviting applications, which must be received by 1 June 2015, in order to compete for a prize of NOK 100,000, a diploma and a work of art.

Many of the previous winners have reported that the award has represented a strong motivation for further research and development, the award has given them recognition and attention in the market nationally and internationally, and that winning the award has contributed positively to the economic performance of the company. Innovation has also had great importance for the technical and economic development of the aquaculture and fisheries sector.
