Nor-Fishing Foundation chairman Liv Holmefjord is encouraging those involved in development projects in the fisheries industry to submit their applications for the Nor-Fishing Foundation Innovation Award 2014 by the deadline of 1 June 2014.
The award consists of a cheque for NOK100,000 (about US$16,500) plus a diploma.
In 2013, 19 applicants from a number of countries submitted their projects, and the winner, announced during Aqua Nor 2013, was Beck Engineering AS of Oslo. The company received the award for its system of optical removal of salmon lice in cages. Managing director Arne Breivik said that the award has brought the company widespread attention and an understanding of optical de-lousing of salmon as a sustainable method for solving the salmon lice problem.
The award has also stimulated further research and development. Recruitment of new personnel and the development of the company has been especially encouraging after Aqua Nor 2013, said Mr Breivik. The employees are proud of last year’s Innovation Award and consider it a major recognition of their efforts.
The Nor-Fishing Foundation Innovation Award for 2014 is devoted to the fisheries industry. The award is given for a product, process, or other specific initiative that creates innovation and efficiency improvements. Increased profitability and safety, improved marine environment and improved quality of marine raw materials are also important aspects.
