Four fishing companies in Iceland plan to join forces with Codland to build a Marine Health Product House in the Reykjanes peninsula in southwest Iceland.
HB Grandi, Samherji (Icefresh), Vísir and Thorfish plan to raise a marine collagen plant which will utilise fish skin to manufacture marine collagen for various health products and global nutraceutical markets.
“We are now in the process of designing the Marine Product Health House. There is a huge strength in having these prominent companies joining forces. These fisheries can provide a stable and first class products for the production,” said Tómas Eiríksson, CEO of Codland.
Thór Sigfússon founder of the Iceland Ocean Cluster, added: “This shows well the value of clustering in the seafood industry. By increasing collaboration we build trust and companies can together with startups make great things.”
The company Codland was founded in 2012 when the Iceland Ocean Cluster brought together seven fishing and ocean-related companies and set the course to create maximum value from every part of the fish.
Codland’s mission is to make the most out of every kg of fish and promote further development of the raw material.
