Norwegian ship designer, Skipskompetanse, has recently signed a contract to develop two new purse seiner trawlers for a Taiwanese owner - delivery will be in the first half of 2013.
The vessels will be built at Jong Shyn Shipbuilding, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan - both designed and developed by Skipskompetanse.
When completed, the vessels will have a length of 35.8m and a breadth of 9.5m. They will be of modern and flexible design with Skipskompetanse's designation of SK-3350 - based on the SK-3100 design, but scaled down and modified to local conditions.
They will be equipped for purse seine and pelagic trawl and will be arranged with state of the art equipment including a 2000kW diesel propulsion system, combined winches for seining and trawling, a vacuum system with suction for seine net and a fish pump arranged forward for seine net and for trawl over the stern.
Elsewhere, the company also has an ongoing project for a Norwegian purse seiner trawler being built by Larsnes Mek Verksted in Norway, due for delivery in summer 2013.
The vessel is designed and developed by Skipskompetanse and the construction of the hull will start in Poland shortly.
The new SK-3100V vessel will be a modern and flexible design with a length of 46.5m and breadth of 12.0m. It will be arranged for purse seine and pelagic trawl and be equipped with state of the art equipment, including a factory and processing facility for gutting of saithe on the main deck.
The vessel has been designed with a focus on fuel efficiency. Model tests were performed on the hull for final optimisations. The propulsion system will be diesel-mechanic with the ability to run in diesel-electric mode.
Skipskompetanse will be exhibiting at the Nor-Fishing Expo 2012 from 14-17 August.
