Vietnamese tuna company, Foodtech JSC, has become the latest organisation to join the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) as an associate participating company.
Participating companies work with the Foundation to advocate for improved fishery management, fund scientific advancements through research and expert analysis, and take direct action to encourage the adoption of responsible fishing practices.
“By working with its tuna company participants, ISSF is able to use their influence with fleet owners, retailers, non-participating companies and other stakeholders as a vehicle to clean up the supply chain and advance our conservation goals,” ISSF president Susan Jackson said. “Adding Foodtech expands our ability to do that as we continue to grow the list of companies implementing ISSF conservation measures and commitments.”
In addition, food distributor Tropical Consolidated Corporation, which began its ISSF participation last year at the associate level, upgraded to become a full participating company effective January 2015.
ISSF launched in 2009 with eight participating companies and today has 25 industry partners, which comprise more than 75% of the world’s processing capacity, with well-known brands produced and sold in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Pacific Islands and Asia.
