Seafish has announced that Brian Young will replace Elaine Hayes as acting chair of the organisation.

Mr Young is currently the deputy chair of Seafish and has been involved with the association for many years. His appointment aims to ensure the continuity of service as it also welcomes a new CEO into post.

Seafish reported: “During her three years' of service Elaine has helped shape a Board that is working with one mission in mind – to support a profitable, sustainable and socially responsible future for the seafood industry.”

The statement continued: “She leaves Seafish in a strong position to deliver for its many stakeholders, both now and in the decades to come.”

An exercise to recruit a permanent successor will be launched in early 2016 by the Fisheries Ministers.

"On behalf of the Board, I would like to express heartfelt thanks for the commitment and enthusiasm that Elaine has brought to her role as Chair. She leaves an organisation that is truly thriving, with a very solid foundation on which to build our next phase of development,” said Mr Young.

He concluded: “Looking ahead to that work, my focus will be on supporting our new chief executive as he takes the helm at Seafish in the New Year, and ensuring the continued delivery of the Seafish Corporate Plan to the satisfaction of our many stakeholders."
