Shoreham Port, UK, has announced the appointment of a new Harbour Master.

Captain Colin Crookshank, who stepped down on 17 July after seven years in the role, handed over operational responsibility for the safety of navigation throughout Shoreham Port to Julian Seaman.
Mr Seaman's appointment follows an extensive search, which saw both internal and external candidates interviewed for the position.
Mr Seaman was Shoreham Port’s Assistant Harbour Master and Port Hydrographer.
Mr Seaman joined Shoreham Port in 1999 as a Tugmaster but has seized a number of opportunities to increase his responsibilities within the organisation.
“When I joined the port 10 years ago I didn’t see myself working in the Harbour Master’s office, let alone having the position,” said Mr Seaman. “I have received great support from the team at Shoreham Port, such as funding to undertake my hydrography training. I am really grateful for the opportunity and looking forward to assuming the role.”
Mr Seaman took over the mantle from Colin Crookshank who is moving to be General Manager at Saqr Port Authority in the United Arab Emirates.
Rodney Lunn, Chief Executive Designate at Shoreham Port said: “Shoreham Port is undergoing a little bit of a transition. I am coming into post and at the same time Colin has left us. I would like to officially thank him for his hard work and dedication over the last 20 years and at the same time say congratulations to Julian on his new role. Continuity is important and Julian certainly knows the Port inside out. He was also by far and away the best applicant and so we had no hesitation in offering him the role.”
The Harbour Master’s role is critical to the smooth running of Shoreham Port. As well as overseeing all marine operations throughout Shoreham Port, Mr Seaman will also be responsible for discharging the port authority’s statutory duties and managing the marine environment, emergencies, the provision of the pilotage service and the fishing and leisure uses of the port.
