Akdeniz Shipyard and Hordafor AS have signed a letter of intent for the building of a new fish farm service vessel.

The main design was carried out by FKAB in Sweden, with the detailed design handled by NORDEN Ship Design House in Turkey. The purpose of the vessel is to handle live, sick or dead fish (salmon, cod, trout etc.) from the big fish farms on the Norwegian coast.

The whole construction will be carried out at Akdeniz Shipyard in Turkey, to be delivered 12 months after steel cutting, in around October 2014.

A special cargo hose crane will be put on the main deck for fishing operations and a new generation rack cooler will be outfitted for the cooling system. By the use of this system, no dry docking is needed, and no sea water circulates in the engine room.

One Yanmar 6EY22AW main engine (max. continuous power 1,180kW (1,600 brake/shaft HP) at 900 revs/min), plus 2 x 553kW Scania generator, plus 1 x 285kW harbour generator, and 2 x 500kW fore and aft bow thrusters will be installed on the vessel.

In addition the vessel is designed as a common IMO Type II chemical tanker with double skin, one continous deck, forecastle, and poop. The ship will be constructed specially for carrying products a requiring NLS (noxious liquid substances) certificate and is only intended to carry cargo in the cargo tanks with a flashpoint >60°C. One separate integrated tank for formic acid will be located in the cargo area forward.
