A new research project is being carried out by Malta-based AquaBioTech Group and the University of Istanbul to look at the environmental and fish health challenges faced by the European aquaculture industry.
Marking the start of the ENVIGUARD project, a questionnaire has been released which aims to understand the main problems encountered within seawater aquaculture due to fish diseases, algal blooms and chemical pollutants.
It also aims to learn about the current monitoring process, associated costs and if farmers are interested in improved monitoring systems. AquaBioTech Group says the results will provide insight into the logistical needs required for such new technologies.
The European project is funded under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) to develop a highly specific and precise measurement device for currently hard to measure man-made chemical contaminants and biohazards that can be used as an early warning systems in aquaculture and environmental monitoring.
The survey will run from October to November online.
