The 14-foot long boat will be used to tackle illegal fishing across the Anglian region.

Lesley Robertson, environmental crime team leader, said: “Melusina is a fantastic asset for the Region. Our Fisheries Enforcement Officers patrol the watercourses all year round, including holidays and weekends. Melusina will allow them to regularly visit the upper reaches and more remote areas of navigable watercourses across Anglian Region to tackle illegal fishing.”

Melusina was taken out by officers last week, who carried out a mock exercise to retrieve nets on Wroxham Broad.

The boat is named after a European figure of legends and folklore, a feminine spirit of freshwaters and rivers named Melusina.
