The European Commission has appointed Charlina Vitcheva as Director-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MARE).
Her appointment takes effect on 1st June.
A Bulgarian national, Charlina Vitcheva has been Deputy Director-General of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) for the past three and a half years following a number of years as Director in the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (REGIO).
Prior to joining the Commission in 2009, she was Minister Plenipotentiary at the Permanent Representation of Bulgaria to the European Union.
