The new contract with MAN Diesel AS is for a Scana Propulsion hybrid ACG 1080 for the new trawler Herøyhav, owned by Norwegian shipowner, Herøyhav AS. Scana has a long tradition as a supplier to the Norwegian fishing fleet.

Scana has also secured a contract with STX OSV for a gear and controllable pitch (cp) hybrid propeller system with a control system for a new Iceman AS anchor handling tug supply vessel.

The vessel is a STX OSV AH12 built for multi role operations in harsh areas – including the Arctic – delivery is planned for the last quarter of 2012.

Kristian Sætre, group director of Scana Propulsion, said to World Fishing: "The combination of having the right product for the vessel and good service availability is of high importance in order to secure new orders."

"Scana has been in the market for advanced offshore operations since the first offshore vessels in the North Sea, and the close relations between the suppliers and the demanding owners and designers in the Norwegian Maritime Cluster has lead to the high level of sophisticated solutions found in this segment today", he added.

The company aims to take advantage of “the market for advanced vessel operation” by tapping into the requirement for more environmentally friendly solutions and a greater need flexibility in both hybrid and diesel propulsion systems – something the Scana propulsion product range is well suited too.
