Nera says its Fleet F33 will offer Mobile Packet Data Service (MPDS) in early 2004. It says it is a cost-effective solution, charging by volume of data sent and received, not by time spent online.

It will offer fishing vessels 'always-on' connectivity with the Internet and company intranets, as well as sea-to-shore connectivity.

Nera adds that rapid access to vital data can have a direct impact on profits and it is the first to offer its new all Fleet standards, F33/55/77. This also gives instant, real-time information on shoal positions, changing weather patterns and chart updates. It includes standard features, such as voice communications, fax, as well as e-mail and Internet access.

Terje Ask- Henriksen, president of Nera SatCom says, "The NERA Fleet family has been tested by Inmarsat and meets all set specifications and requirements."
