The new Voyager for Northern Ireland company Voyager Fishing Company was launched yesterday at a ceremony at the newbuilding division of the Nauta Ship Repair Yard in Gdansk.

Nauta Yard launches Voyager

The new Voyager has been launched at the Nauta Ship Repair yard in Gdansk

Designed by Norwegian naval architect Salt Ship Design, the 86.4m LOA by 17.8m beam Voyager has a 3200 cubic metre capacity in its RSW tanks, will have a 120 tonne bollard pull and will also be capable of quiet running with a low rpm propeller.

Voyager is a part-build to be completed at the Karstensens yard in Skagen and is one of a long series of newbuilds taking shape at the Nauta Ship Repair Yard’s newbuilding division, mainly for Karstensens.

There are currently ten fishing vessels under construction, including one to be fully fitted out at Nauta. Seven vessels are scheduled to be delivered this year and the other three during the first two quarters of 2018.

Nauta Ship Repair goes back to 1926 and specialises in building vessels and hulls, repairs and classification inspections of civilian crafts as well as repairs and rebuilding of military crafts. The shipyard is also getting increasingly involved in newbuilds and production of steel offshore structures.

Over 90 years of its activity, Nauta has performed numerous extensive repairs on various types of ships. It has also designed and built nearly 500 fishing and special purpose vessels. At the end of 2012 Nauta transferred most of its production facilities to the area which previously belonged to Gdynia Shipyard. The acquisition of additional space has created enormous growth opportunities for Nauta Shipyard.
