NAUST MARINE is now working on new solutions in the field of Diesel-Electric propulsion for fishing vessels, as well as new models of electrically driven IBERCISA winches, in co-operation with the naval architects of SkipaSyn," says Asgeir Erling Gunnarsson general manager of NAUST MARINE, "the new SEA concept (Silence-Efficiency-Automation) is the new long term goal of NAUST MARINE"

"We are now working on new technology for Diesel-Electric propulsion for all types of vessels and boats. For the smaller boats we are now offering new solution developed by FEYS - ELFA / SIEMENS, which in the beginning was developed as a Diesel-Electric system for busses, but fits perfectly to modern polyester 'speed' fishing boats."

Successful exhibition

At the IceFish exhibition in Iceland many interested customers gathered in the NAUST MARINE stand to learn more about this new system.

For larger fishing boats and vessels NAUST MARINE is co-operating with ASI-Robicon, which have long experience in designing and supplying Diesel-Electric propulsion systems.

ASI Robicon was the supplier of the Diesel-Electric propulsion system of FRV SCOTIA and is now supplying the Diesel-Electric propulsion system for the new FRV of the British Marine institute CEFAS which is under construction at the FERGUSON SHIPBUILDERS Ltd. In Glasgow".

NAUST MARINE supplied the GENSETS and the Power Management System for FRV ARNI FRIDRIKSSON, which has proven to be very reliable and efficient.

Motors

The propulsion motors in FRV ARNI FRIDRIKSSON have very low rpm and work directly on the propeller without a gearbox and such arrangement is more expensive that using gearbox.

Therefore NAUST MARINE has included a gearbox in the Diesel-Electric solution for commercial fishing vessels. The solutions is not quite as silent as the FRV solution, but the price is competitive.

"At the IceFish Exhibition NAUST MARINE also introduced the Rudder Propellers from SCHOTTEL as a part of Diesel-Electric solutions, especially for vessels where manoeuvrability is important like long-liners and purse seiners. SCHOTTEL is also offering the STP TWIN-PROPELLER as especially silent rudder propeller."

"I would also like to underline that the AUTO-GEN system which NAUST MARINE has already delivered to 17 vessels, is in its basic form a Diesel-Electric system, which operates as auxiliary propulsion system, when more bollard pull or speed is needed, by using the shaft generator as an auxiliary propulsion motor."

"It is a well known fact between the Icelandic fishermen, that during the stock evaluation tests carried out by FRV ARNI FRIDRIKSSON and several conventional trawlers, that Arni Fridriksson consistently fishes up to a third more than the other vessels that take part, all using exactly the same fishing gear, so we can see that engine noise makes a difference."

"NAUST MARINE and SkipaSyn have been working together on the new 'WideBody' design of SkipaSyn.

NAUST MARINE will act as marketing partner and supplier of 'SEA' equipment for the WideBody fishing vessels that will be built in METALSHIPS AND DOCKS in Spain."

"NAUST MARINE will of course also offer all kinds of electrical IBERCISA winches in the future, which has been the main role of the company in the past.

New types of auxiliary electric IBERCISA winches were sold on the stand at the IceFish 2002 exhibition, as well as new contracts signed for the reliable ATW IBERCISA trawl winch system."

"Recently a merger agreement was signed between NAUST MARINE and LOGIC, which means that four experienced electrical engineers have been added to the technical department which enable NAUST MARINE to enter new fields of business and form a stronger support to the export activities."
