A mass of mussel shells caught in a UK trawler’s nets forced the crew to call for help after the weight of it caught difficulty in manoeuvring.
The vessel had been struggling to make headway against the tide due to the weight in its nets.
Matthew Williams, from the Mumbles lifeboat crew, said the vessel was towed into Swansea Bay.
"When the tide dropped it was found to be a mass of mussel shells which was causing extraordinary drag," Williams said.
The trawler with one person on board was rescued in the Bristol Channel.
Williams was put onboard the trawler to help the skipper with towing into the safety of Knab Rock Mumbles, in Swansea Bay.
He said: "We took the trawler to the safe area at Knab Rock Mumbles for the skipper to inspect his nets and remove whatever it was holding him back."
