The largest fishing port in Wales, Milford Fish Docks, had record fish landings in 2012 and landed the largest catch for fifteen years in January 2013 - it now wants to push ahead and attract more fishing businesses.

The figures were announced at the recent bi-annual British Port Association Fishing Ports Working Group meeting during the insightful two day discussion showcasing the future of Milford Haven’s fishing industry.

Representatives from eighteen UK fishing ports including Brixham, Plymouth, Peterhead, Newlyn, Grimsby and Holyhead all attended with a view to learning about best practice and managing the complexity of all port areas to everyone’s benefit - including fishermen.

Kevin Dobbs, short sea director, Port of Milford Haven, said: “The meeting provided a great opportunity for us to showcase Milford Fish Docks and the wider Port of Milford Haven to our colleagues in the industry. We were delighted to host them here in Pembrokeshire and share with them our plans to build on Milford’s fishing history by investing in new infrastructure, services and facilities.”

Milford Fish Docks will be benefitting from the Port of Milford Haven’s Dock Master Plan, which incorporates an investment programme of £60m. The investment is set to regenerate the Dock Basin and attract new businesses related to the fishing sector.
