The domestic battery bank must be the most important feature for life on board.
Merlin Lifeline batteries, which meet the same safety classification as gel batteries for use in cabin spaces, can be mounted at any angle because they are spill proof, even if cracked open. Using the latest absorbed glass matt (AGM) technology, they have a lower internal resistance than other batteries so can re-charge up to 30 per cent faster than conventional lead/acid or gel types. And they do not need expensive alternator controllers or battery management systems, adds Merlin.
Lifeline also have no upper charging current limit.
A single, 100AH battery can be charged at 500A plus, while most batteries are only able to accept 15-20% of their AMP capacity per hour during charging. This cuts charging times.
Shelf life is a long, 18+ months and they are resistant to hot and sub-zero temperatures. Merlin Marine says they beat equivalent gel cells on price.
