Macduff Shipyards Ltd has recently completed a steel fish farm workboat for Scottish Sea Farms Ltd for its facility in Sand Bixter in Shetland. The “Lonabrak” is a versatile catamaran with a large deck capacity. The overall length of the vessel is 12.44m, the breadth is 6m and the depth moulded is 2.10m.
The layout below deck from forward includes in the port hull a storeroom and toilet, engine room and steering compartment and in the starboard hull a storeroom with shelves and lockers, engine room and steering compartment.
The vessel is powered by twin Mermaid Mistral diesels each rated at169HP at 2500RPM and driving through PRM1000D4 gearboxes with 4:1 reduction ratio. The engines and gearboxes are installed on resilient mounts.
Halyard has supplied the wet exhaust systems through the transom and Exalto sterngear with flexible stuffing boxes and flexible couplings are used to drive Exalto handed propellers. Each engine also drives a 60 amp 24v alternator and a Jabsco bilge/deckwash pump.
A Palfinger PK 10000 (M)A crane is arranged to starboard aft and a two tonne capstan is fitted aft of the wheelhouse also to starboard. These are powered from a pump on a clutched pto on the port side PRM gearbox. A hydraulically powered pressure washer is also fitted, supplied by Acquawash.
The steering gear by Wills Ridley Ltd handles two rudders and is hydraulically linked. There is a single steering position inside the wheelhouse, and an additional steering station outside with the engine controls adjacent to both steering positions. The wheelhouse is equipped with a Pyro oil fired stove, a microwave oven, stainless steel sink and mess table.
The wheelhouse equipment comprises a Furuno 1623 radar; Murena GPS plotter; Icom IC M421 VHF, GME GR200 AM/FM Radio; Nokia 6090 mobile phone; Silva LB compass; Vetus electric horn; Exalto pantograph window wiper; clock; barometer; and inclinometer.
Other equipment includes electrics and switchboard supplied by R D Downie (Fraserburgh); Seamatz Mini WS searchlight from MAFCO Ltd; Bostrom T-1 helmsman's chair from Thomas Scott & Co; life saving appliances by Aberdeen Inflatables; and fire equipment from AC Equipment.
