Spanish seafood processing company, Lumar Seafood International, and the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) are joining forces to improve the sustainability of seafood and responsible supply chains.

SFP is dedicated to helping businesses source seafood responsibly and works with major seafood buyers across the world. This new partnership will see the companies carry out assessments of the sustainability of all seafood sources along with the creation of improvement projects to enhance environmental performance.

The aim is to ensure that all seafood sources for Lumar originate from approved, certified sources or from fisheries and farms engaged in improvement projects.

“After having participated with the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership in some responsible fishing and sustainability forums we feel quite comfortable and confident that this is a solid partnership that will continue to improve Lumar’s commitment to responsible and ethical sourcing at the highest level,” said Albert o Romero Bermo, director of fisheries and sustainability, Lumar.

“We are very excited in developing this approach in Spain with a company like Lumar. Its international fishing knowledge and background together with big concerns about ecological sustainability of fisheries will allow both, ourselves and Lumar, to engage the whole supply chain in delivering real improvements,” added Pedro Ferreiro, SFP.

Lumar produces natural added-value seafood products as well as internationally-recognised innovative recipes and ready-to-eat meals. The company supplies both retail and food service throughout Europe.
