Scotland’s Loch Duart Artisan Smokehouse has recalled several batches of its oak smoked salmon after detecting listeria in the product posing a health risk.
The Food Standards Agency recalled batch 31702 and the company also recalled batch codes 06082, 07082, 13082, 15082 and 21082, as a precautionary measure.
Customers were compensated with a refund or replacement of the product along with a 200g pack of Flaky salmon free of charge.
“The Smokehouse deeply regrets any inconvenience that this may cause. No other Loch Duart Artisan Smokehouse products are affected”, a statement read on Loch Duart's website.
Loch Duart says it's now reviewing its cold smoking procedures in conjunction with the relevant authorities.
Listeriosis is a foodborne illness caused by the bacterium listeria. It causes more deaths from food poisoning in the UK than any other food poisoning. Many cases are associated with chilled ready to eat foods.
