Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven has been awarded a contract to build a fishing vessel which will be designed and equipped by Rolls-Royce.

The stern trawler has been ordered by French fishing company Compagnie Des Peches Saint-Malo S.A. & SAS Comptoir Des Peches D’Europe Du Nord – Euronor.
Jan Emblemsvåg, Rolls-Royce, Senior Vice President Ship Design & Systems, said: “This is our fifth fishing industry related contract this year, of which four are to be built by Kleven.”
The vessel owner has decided on the Rolls-Royce NVC 374 Wave Piercing (WP) design, which features an onboard factory for the production of fish filet, and has a storage capacity of 1,400 cubic metres. The design also features a 550 cubic metre fishmeal storage hold.
When completed, the ICE 1A classed vessel will be 80 metres long and equipped with a range of Rolls-Royce equipment, including a Bergen B33:45 engine, auxiliary engines, thruster, automation and hydraulic winches.
Since its market introduction in 2014, the Bergen B33:45 engine has been selected to power six fishing vessels. It offers a 20% increase in power per cylinder compared to existing engines in the Bergen range. The engines are economical with a specific fuel consumption of 177g/kWh at full load and comply with IMO Tier II and III rules. The engine is designed to run for 25,000 hours between major maintenance when operating at average loads.
According to Rolls-Royce, operational efficiency, low emissions, crew comfort, safety and excellent seakeeping capabilities were the main considerations in the development of the ship design and equipment package for the client.
The vessel is scheduled to be delivered from the yard in September 2017.
