The International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) has terminated tuna trader JFE Shoji Trade America Inc. as an ISSF participant.

The ISSF says this is due to lack of compliance with ISSF’s science-based conservation measures aimed at improving the long-term health of global tuna fisheries.

ISSF participants must agree to independent audits to assure conformance with these measures. These annual, mandatory audits are conducted by MRAG Americas, Inc., an organisation that provides marine resource management, scientific, and technical consulting services.

The MRAG audit determined that JFE Shoji did not comply with several ISSF Conservation Measures.
