World Ocean Council (WOC) membership has surged over the past 12 months, with more than 25 new members joining, says the ever the growing international cross-sectoral ocean business alliance.
The new WOC Members expand the sectoral range of this unique multi-industry coalition - bringing in fishing, submarine cables, supply chain operators, commodity shippers, fertilisers, geo-information systems, ocean data management, education - and add depth to the involvement of oil/gas, shipping, mining, science, technology, and other fields.
The new members also expand the WOC’s geographic scope to include Hong Kong, China, Singapore, New Zealand, and Greenland, as well as increasing the number of WOC companies in Europe, North America and Australia.
The WOC’s Sustainable Ocean Summit, the international ocean business forum to advance responsible use of the seas will take place from 22 to 24 April 2013 in Washington D.C., US.
With a theme of ‘Oceans 2050 - The Ocean Business Community and Sustainable Seas’, it will kick-off a process to define the drivers, trends and scenarios affecting the future of ocean business operations for decades to come.
The event will bring together a wide range of ocean industries, including: shipping, oil and gas, fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, renewable energy (wind, wave, tidal), mining, ports, dredging, cables, pipelines, the maritime legal, financial and insurance communities, and others.
