Icelandic® USA, Inc. announced last week that it has been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) to begin marketing a variety of sustainable species.
The species that the company will develop initially include MSC certified Alaska Pollock, Alaska Salmon, New Zealand Hoki, Pacific Cod and Pacific Halibut. The company intends to build a full line of premium quality products to meet the marketplace demands of its customers for sustainable seafood choices.
“We have carefully watched the important sustainable seafood movement grow and became convinced that the environmental standards of the MSC and their well established eco label, was the right choice to help communicate our commitment to responsibly managing our global fisheries,” stated Thomas Sherman Vice President of Marketing for Icelandic® USA, Inc. “The MSC’s leadership in successfully building a meaningful environmental brand statement which can communicate to a restaurant operator or consumer that they are making a responsible seafood choice is significant.”
Icelandic® USA is also working closely with other groups dedicated to both fishery management in the wild and species that are farm raised. “If there is a positive step that Icelandic® USA, Inc. can take towards improving the environment, especially in regards to the world’s most important renewable food source-seafood, we are going to strongly pursue it,” stated Sherman.
