Hofseth BioCare’s fish oil and fish protein have been approved by Friend of the Sea.
The Norwegian company’s OmeGo and ProGo, sourced exclusively from the trimmings of salmon processing plants, have been found to meet Friend of the Sea (FOS) fish feeds and oils certification requirements. By making best use of offcuts, FOS says that Hofset BioCare is optimising the use of valuable marine resources which would otherwise be wasted.
All the production is carried out at the Midsund plant where trimmings arrive in plastic boxes, all signed and numbered. Fresh offcuts that would otherwise be wasted are supplied to the factory several times a day and immediately processed.
Neither Hofseth BioCare nor the identified salmon suppliers use GMO products, and the company has a specific tracking procedure which guarantees the tracking and tracing of each trimming’s batch.
The waste management system in place includes a filtering system treating the waste waters; controls occur three times every year and are regulated by the government.
“We’re very happy to have obtained Friend of the Sea certification to prove the sustainable origin of our products,” said Sjur Jenssen, CEO of Hofseth BioCare.
