The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will convene its Vessel Monitoring System Advisory Panel 24-25 May 2011 in Tampa, Florida.
The panel will meet to discuss operation, design, and usage of vessel monitoring systems (VMS), as well as resulting data from these systems. Also on the agenda is a discussion regarding the current and future needs of vessel monitoring systems software, including methods to improve VMS products and services.
Technical issues with vessel monitoring systems will be considered, including a review of existing procedures to safeguard data from unauthorised use or distribution. Other applications of VMS in Gulf of Mexico fisheries are also up for discussion. The meeting will conclude with draft recommendations, which will be presented to the Council during its June meeting in Key West, Florida.
