Applications for the 2017 the International Association of Fish Inspectors (IAFI) Peter Howgate Award are now open.

The IAFI Peter Howgate Award is a lasting tribute to Mr Howgate's work and career

The grant will fund will fund the attendance of a young fish technologist to the IAFI World Seafood Congress 2017 in Reykjavik, Iceland from 10 to 13 September 2017.

Following the sudden death of Peter Howgate at the end of the last year, the IAFI Peter Howgate Award is a lasting tribute to Mr Howgate's work and career and a recognition of his immense contribution to the field of fish technology both during his 35 years at the UK’s Torry Research Station, UK and thereafter.

IAFI’s World Seafood Congress is being held to coincide with the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition being held from 13 to 15 September. The award will cover travel, accommodation and the congress fee and this will afford the winning applicant a career changing opportunity to gain insights and build networks in the global fishery sector.

The award was set up by fish technology professionals around the world, with the help of the Seafood HACCP Discussion List community and was adopted by the IAFI in 2014. It’s administered by Megapesca Lda Portugal on behalf of the International Association of Fish Inspectors.
