Icelandic fishing company Síldarvinnslan and its subsidiary Bergur-Huginn have placed an order for 3500 fish tubs from Sæplast, opting for a striking orange colour for the tubs.

These tubs will be used on board the two new Bergur-Huginn trawlers under construction in Norway and these are 460 litre tubs to replace the older 660 litre tubs. The smaller tubs have been chosen for quality reasons, with smaller amounts of fish in each tub in the fishroom, and also for ease of handling the smaller, lighter tubs.
Sæplast had previously supplied 750 tubs in the same orange colour for Síldarvinnslan’s trawler Gullver, so the decision was taken to continue with the same colour.
Production at Sæplast’s factory has been busy with the Bergur-Huginn order since April and the full 3500 tubs are expected to be completed by November. The order for the tubs was formally signed at the recent Seafood Expo Global exhibition by Síldarvinnslan’s Sigurður Steinn Einarsson, Arnar Richardsson of Bergur-Huginn and Sævaldur Jens Gunnarsson on behalf of Sæplast.
“We were looking for a colour that would make our tubs stand out,” said Sigurður Steinn Einarsson.
“It’s nothing unusual for our tubs to get mixed up with others, and it’s all too frequent that people pick up the nearest tub. This colour will hopefully make it easier for us to identify our own tubs. We have been working with Sæplast’s subsidiary iTub in improving awareness of how tubs should be handled and ensuring good handling of the containers in which we store catches is a joint project between seafood companies,” he said.
