Globalstar says WaveCall 3000 and WaveCall MCM3 fixed maritime units will be its preferred products and will make them available in all areas served by the Globalstar satellite network.
Globalstar claims it is the world's most widely used mobile satellite network.

It said WaveCall 3000 was recently named as the Best New Product of 2004 by the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA). It provides voice and data speeds of up to 56Kbps using data compression, and can interface with permanently-installed shipboard systems.
WaveCall MCM3 uses three simultaneously-connected channels to provide voice and data speeds of up to 144 kbps using data compression. An RJ45 Ethernet connection also makes the product easy to integrate into networks. Both products support software compression to increase data speeds and are designed and manufactured exclusively for WaveCall by its parent company, Sea Tel, Inc., the statement said.
WaveCall is a major reseller of Globalstar services in the United States, the Caribbean and Europe, the statement added. In those markets where WaveCall does not operate as a reseller, the company hopes to sell the products via agreements with the individual Globalstar Gateway Operators with service provided by the operators.
Peter Whyte, president of WaveCall was quoted as saying: "We currently have more than 1,500 boats operating with WaveCall equipment."
Globalstar said that, earlier this year, it improved its gateway facility in Puerto Rico and the company announced plans for an entirely new gateway now under construction in Florida.
Globalstar says it has the world's most popular handheld satellite phone with both voice and data, from virtually anywhere, to more than 110,000 subscribers in more than 120 countries.
