The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) is to present Vietnamese seafood champion Dr Nguyen Huu Dzung with a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at its GOAL 2014 conference next month.

Dr Dzung's career in seafood spans more than four decades. He is known for his work with the Vietnamese Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) and supporting farmed shrimp and Pangasius exports to both traditional and new markets around the world.
"For many, the face of the Vietnamese seafood industry is Dr Dzung. No country, to my knowledge, has such a devoted 'salesperson.' He is a truly special man,” said Wally Stevens, executive director, GAA.
He became general secretary of VASEP upon its establishment in 1998 and currently acts as the organisation’s vice president. In that time, Vietnam’s aquaculture industry has grown tremendously. Last year, the country exported US$6.72bn of seafood, with shrimp and Pangasius sent to a total of 91 and 148 countries, respectively.
"Dr Dzung's passion for aquaculture and his sincere, tireless, heartfelt approach has greatly advanced the image of Vietnam and of aquaculture in general,” added George Chamberlain, president, GAA.
Mr Dzung will accept the award on Wednesday 8 October at the Sheraton Saigon Hotel and Towers, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where the four-day conference is being held.
