The Future of Food Careers event aims to educate school pupils about the range of food industry careers available

The Future of Food Careers event at the Grimsby Institute in Lincolnshire is open to local schools and will see companies including Young’s Seafood, Seachill and Morrisons exhibiting and giving real-life experience talks to pupils to showcase career opportunities and the benefits associated with a career in the food sector, with a specific focus on seafood.

Julie Snowden, account manager at Seafish, which organised the event alongside the Grimsby Institute, said: “It’s no secret that the food industry will face some challenges/changes once we leave the EU so it is important to showcase this exciting and diverse sector, highlighting the scope of opportunities available to make it attractive to the future local workforce.

“There’s a sea of career opportunities, both locally and across the UK with roles ranging from manufacturing, new product development, buying and marketing to name a few.”

Female talent

The 22 February event will focus on attracting more females into the traditionally male-dominated industry.

Speakers will include Amanda Perry, a successful entrepreneur, and Karen Galloway, who has worked in the food sector for 25 years.

There will also be live demonstrations from Gary Hooper, owner of GCHFishmongers and the self-titled 'Girly Fishmonger' Emma McKeating.
