Sæplast attended Seafood Processing Europe in Brussels and the company was very pleased with the interest shown in the ‘Fish Tub of the Future’.

“The recent Seafood Processing Europe exhibition in Brussels was among the best shows ever for Sæplast. We received many enquiries – and orders – and there was enormous interest in our 'Fish Tub of the Future' that debuted at the show,” says Hilmar Guðmundsson, Marketing and Sales Manager at Sæplast Dalvík ehf. The prototype tub is now in the final stage of product development.

Guðmundsson said the new tub has been developed in close cooperation with FISK Seafood and the Icelandic Fisheries Laboratories, as well as specialists from other Icelandic fisheries companies that participated in a focus group.

The Fish Tub of the Future marks a major departure from traditional tub design and takes a huge leap into the future with its revolutionary features. It is lighter, has greater relative capacity, and when stacked the upper tub seals the tub below it. For example, when stacked four high, a lid is only needed on the uppermost tub. Slots for forklift forks have been moved to the tub's side thereby preventing dirt and other impurities from dropping into lower tubs when being stacked. These and other changes put this new tub into a class all its own, making it a very exciting innovation for operations on land or at sea”, says Guðmundsson, The tub's design is patent pending.

Sæplast customers at the exhibition were offered the opportunity to have an impact on the final design of the new tub. Further development work is ahead before it will go into mass production, at first to fill orders taken at the Brussels exhibition.

Guðmundsson says the Brussels show is among the most important annual events participated in by Sæplast, which was underscored by staff being brought in from Iceland, Norway, Spain, Canada and Asia. “Brussels is important for making contact with customers from around the world. This year's show was among the best ever: customer interest was high and many orders were booked. Ideally, events such as this one result in improved product development, direct sales and new customers – which are the precise results we gained from the show. We're very pleased,” says Guðmundsson.
