Every two years the Danfish Exhibition brings together global fishing industry representatives to do business in Aalborg, Denmark.
And this year’s event looks set to capitalise in on the new-found confidence of the fishing industry with a huge focus on the steady increase in investment in new vessels to take advantage of healthy fish stocks, strong quotas and the general greater demand for seafood.
As if to illustrate this trend, there will be more shipbuilders at the exhibition that in previous years including the likes of Denmark’s own Karstensens Skibsværft and Vestværft.
Both shipyards have impressive order books with newbuilds for the UK, Irish, Dutch, Norwegian and Danish customers, with Vestværft even having to place newbuild projects with other yards to cope with demand.
What is noticeable about the Danish yards is that they have also stayed with the fishing business through the leaner years, developing their designs to meet the needs of an industry that is changing in terms of delivery and quality requirements.
The reward has been the full orderbooks we see today, with both Karstensens and Vestværft able to look forward to some busy years ahead.
In addition to the Danish shipbuilders taking part in this year’s event, the exhibition will also attract shipyards from Norway, Turkey, Spain and the Baltic region.
Away from shipbuilding, DanFish provides a showcase for the whole range of technology from new vessels to a set of oilskins. It’s used as a platform where many suppliers make a point of launching new products.
Danfish takes place at the Aalborg Kongres & Kultur Center on 11, 12 and 13 October.
