The Republic of China and Chile’s National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) have signed a MoU to strengthen cooperation between both countries and to guarantee the sanitary safety of fishery products.

The agreement will facilitate the exchange of information between the agencies responsible for ensuring the health status of fishery products that are imported and exported in both countries, enabling them to establish joint working groups to standardise protocols for inspection, quarantine requirements, technology exchanges and professional training, among others.
The two countries will also share information on chemical waste, hazardous substances and diseases affecting aquatic animals, among other aspects of the trade in these products.
"In addition, we promise that, before modifying any regulations or adopt new regulations, which affect established procedures, each party must inform the other, and provide acceptable transition periods," said Ana Maria Urrutia, Sernapesca’s national director.
