Danish block-carton producer Cartolit has its sights set on China to build on what has been a successful year for the company in terms of export sales.

"We can certainly compete in China in terms of quality and price," says Cartolit md Mogens Neilsen. "We have had success in China in the past but we feel there is so much potential there. Hygiene requirements and regulations are becoming more demanding everywhere in the world," he adds.

Cartolit have reported a good year for export sales, especially outside Europe. As well as China, Mogens Neilsen predicts that New Zealand will be a growth market for block cartons as well as South America, assuming the El Niño stays away.

"Things have slowed down in Euro, for example, demand has fallen by 75 per cent in Norway, but it is still an importnat market for us and also will be."

Cartolit prides itself on its 'A' certificate for HACCP hygiene control. The company is also one of the first to be involved in pre-folding using its Safe-Print system part of the company's overall plans to educate the customer in how best to use the liners to ensure maximum hygiene protection.

"We are constanly working with injector system, with waxes and cardboard and how best to apply them to our products," adds Mogens Neilsen.

Paperboard, for example is 'exclusively' produced for the Cartolit under ISO9001 approval. Raw material is selected and transformed into paperboard of five equal high quality layers.

The material is then given high temperature and bacteriological control to help secure food packaging hygiene. The product is then coated with paraffine waxes with added components under strict control.
