After a couple of slow weeks, fishing on blue whiting is gathering pace and there have been some big landings in the last few days.
Síldarvinnslan reports that Margrét landed 2200 tonnes of blue whiting in Neskaupstaður last night, while the Polish-flagged Janus is on its way to land 850 tonnes in Seyðisfjörður.
Bjarni Ólafsson has finished a trip and is now also steaming to Seyðisfjörður to discharge, and skipper Runólfur Runólfsson said that fishing in Faroese waters in the last few days has improved noticeably.
“We are steaming to Seyðisfjörður and expect to be in port at 4 in the morning with 1750 tonnes,” he said.
“We took this in four hauls, which is pretty good considering how the fishing has been recently. We had 550 tonnes in the first haul after towing for 18 hours. The other hauls were 300 to 450 tonnes for eight to twelve hour tows, and we hope that the fishing will stay this way,” Runólfur Runólfsson said.
