The 11 metre steel vessel had suffered gearbox failure and was stranded miles out to sea. There were three crew onboard the vessel.

The lifeboat crew reached the vessel just after 11pm and proceeded to take it under tow to Porturlin. Weather conditions at the time were a northeasterly wind force four to five with three metre swells in the water. The lifeboat crew were not back at station until 5am the following morning.

Commenting on the callout Ballyglass Coxswain JT Gaughan said, “This was a long service for the crew and is the second one in over a week for the all weather lifeboat. Machinery failure so far out at sea in less than ideal conditions is very difficult for a crew and we were happy to give assistance.”
