Three-Sixty Aquaculture has announced its first major expansion into mainland Europe with the development of a new indoor prawn farm in Oostende, marking a key step in its international growth strategy.
The project, supported by Marifish, will see the company deploy its proprietary clearwater recirculating aquaculture system, originally designed and tested in Swansea. Installation is now underway following local approvals, with the first harvest expected in late summer.

The Oostende facility will produce fresh, sushi-grade prawns for retailers and wholesalers across Europe, offering a locally farmed alternative to imported seafood typically transported over long distances.
Chief executive James Fox Davies described the move as a defining moment for the business. “Taking our UK developed technology into mainland Europe is a pivotal moment for the business,” he said.
“This expansion proves that British aquaculture innovation can scale internationally, delivering fresher, more sustainable seafood.”
A key element of the expansion is a new partnership with the Flemish Fish Auction, providing direct access to major buyers and strengthening distribution across the continent.
“Our partnership with the Flemish Fish Auction gives us a strong commercial platform across Europe and reinforces the credibility of the systems we’ve built here in Swansea,” Fox Davies added.
Backed by chef and Masterchef presenter, Marcus Wareing, the company is positioning itself at the forefront of land-based aquaculture, focusing on high-quality, responsibly produced seafood.
The Belgian site forms part of a broader strategy to export British aquaculture expertise, reduce reliance on imports and bring production closer to end markets as demand for sustainable seafood continues to grow.
