Trang Corporation and Dary Foods Co. have joined the Shrimp Welfare Project’s Humane Slaughter Initiative, advancing higher-welfare harvest practices in shrimp farming.

Trang Corporation, a leading Vietnamese food and seafood company, has committed to electrically stun 1,800 tonnes of shrimps annually using a shrimp stunner provided by the Shrimp Welfare Project.

UK-based seafood supplier Trangs Group has also joined the partnership, agreeing to prioritise the purchase of stunned shrimps from Trang Corporation.

“As more retailers commit to higher welfare standards, we are seeing a real shift in how shrimps are farmed and harvested,” said Krzysztof Wojtas, Shrimp Welfare Project’s chief programmes officer.

“With partners like Trang Corporation and Trangs Group embracing humane slaughter, Shrimp Welfare Project is proud to help the industry transition to more responsible aquaculture practices.”

The collaboration forms part of the Shrimp Welfare Project’s Humane Slaughter Initiative, which supports the shrimp industry’s transition to humane slaughter by providing free-of-charge equipment, training and technical support.

The memorandum of understanding represents the programme’s 25th corporate partnership globally and the ninth in Vietnam.

Momentum for improved shrimp welfare is increasing. As of January 2026, 11 major retailers across the UK and Europe have published policies committing to humane slaughter and the elimination of eyestalk ablation from their supply chains, reflecting shifting consumer expectations.

“At Trangs Group, we believe that responsible sourcing starts with animal welfare,” said David Ho, Trangs Group’s global sales director.

“By joining this initiative, we ensure the prawns we supply meet the highest ethical standards, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and animal wellbeing.”
