The Scottish Salmon Company has unveiled its new competency framework, a comprehensive list of skills and behaviours required for freshwater and marine staff from Apprentice to Expert levels.
Announced at Lantra Scotland’s Business Leaders Afternoon earlier this month, the new framework is mapped to the National Occupational Standards for Aquaculture. It covers all farming staff and has been developed to reflect the evolving needs of the business within the aquaculture industry. It is envisaged that it will also support staff retention and attract new talent to the business.
“We have developed this innovative framework not only to guarantee that we are attracting the best possible talent to our business, but also to ensure we are providing our teams with optimum training and development opportunities and identifying clear progression routes for career development,” said Craig Anderson, managing director, The Scottish Salmon Company.
“We will continue to revise our training plans and framework to ensure that The Scottish Salmon Company is an industry leader in staff training and development and to give us a competitive edge as the aquaculture industry continues to grow and develop,” he added.
The Scottish Salmon Company’s model is built around three fundamental building blocks including a customised training programme of internal and external courses, the new competency framework.
The company developed the framework in partnership with Dr Brendan Gara of SkillFish and measures staff competence in three dimensions and covers not only knowledge and performance but also includes approach.
