The Kapenta net, used for aquaculture purposes only, is named after a very small fish. The mesh size of this net does not exceed 8mm.

Established in 1963, Alnet’s Cape Town factory manufactures a versatile range of synthetic textile and netting products in the fishing, agricultural, industrial, decorative, cordage, civil engineering, mining and defence markets.

Its first foray into the aquaculture industry came in 2006 when it developed a tilapia net for a Zambian client. The net was made up in a 4mm square, polyethylene mesh.

An Alnet spokesman told WF the company is receiving a growing number of enquiries from African countries for aquaculture nets and products.

As well as supplying a wide range of products to the fishing industry, including specialised netting for the trawl, purse seine, and crayfish industries, Alnet also stocks a full range of hardware, braids, ropes and floats.
