The Danish Fishermen''s Association (DFA) plans to have all Danish fisheries MSC certified by 2012. At a recent meeting the DFA began the MSC assessment of North Sea plaice, saithe and Eastern Baltic cod. If all goes to plan, fish from these three fisheries will be sold with the MSC eco-label in Europe in one year.
If the Eastern Baltic cod fishery is successful it will be the first EU cod stock to carry the MSC eco-label.
The whole project involves approximately 50 fisheries and around one million tonnes of fish.
